Mind, Body & Spirit
Faraja Primary School for Children with Physical Disabilities stands proudly beneath majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa. Faraja provides love and opportunity to young people in a country where the disabled are deemed not worthy of education and inclusion as full members of society. At Faraja, the students push their limits, discover opportunities, and master skills. Nationally recognized for its record of student achievement, Faraja School is a caring residential community that provides academic rigor and medical support to help each student strengthen mind, body, and spirit.
The Team Jake Center was completed at Faraja in 2015 and is utilized by all students that attend Faraja and it’s managed by Emil, physical therapist and great support from Neema, the nurse.
“You can do this.”
Faraja is committed to improving the health, strength and mobility of all students. The school has a full time physical therapist and a well-equipped physical therapy center right on campus. Each student receives some form of physical or occupational therapy in order to strengthen their body and accommodate for their individual physical limitation.
Emil also shepherds students to Tanzanian doctors and hospitals as their health and physical needs may require. These include the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre and Machame Lutheran Hospital.
